Lockyer valley farmers face a big clean up to find a solution for their crop loss problem.

"I really want a farmer's crop so I can feed my family for Christmas."

In the past, farmers had to haul their crops over a fence that's been in place for 20-40 years.

That fence is now coming down, along with many of their other farm tools.

"It's definitely a solution," said farmer Jonathon Williams. "The main thing we need to be happy with is where the crop fell."

In the next few months it will be possible to start harvesting, but they are still waiting on final environmental reviews from Health Canada before taking anything further with it.

The farmers hope to see the fences fall down this month to save them and their family farm on the north end of the area of the village that's been closed.

Queensland offers to take 3500 syrian refugees from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria.

The Queensland government says it will accept up to 3500 refugees from Islamic State and other terror groups over the coming 12 months, and more after that.

The move is in a bid to reduce the risk of conflict with migrants from the Syrian conflict.

The migration minister, Peter Dutton, said a "large number" of Muslims were helping people in Australia and overseas.

"It is important that we make sure people have access to a safe and secure environment for them to continue their religious activities and to get their lives in order," he said.

"I want to reassure the community at large that the government will not seek to limit the resettlement of the refugees who have made this country their home."

A third of the Syrian refugees being sought

At least one person has already been killed and more than 300 have been displaced by the chaos in Syria.

While some 200 Syrians fled to the Australian outback, in what some call the world's largest refugee camp, it is believed about 30,000 refugees have already made the journey to Australia.

New arrivals in Sydney

The number of arrivals is a surprise to the government in New South Wales where some 200 refugees arrived in the north on Monday.

One of the men, identified only as Abu Mohammed, told the ABC on Sunday: "I came here to Australia, I was there in Afghanistan, I was there in Iraq... I didn't leave that place."

He has now spent four months in detention in a Sydney facility after being charged with planning an assault to kill Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

He has been charged with an offence under the federal Anti-Terrorism Act with making a statement indicating an intention to use violence "against an Australian person".
